The Grand event of the Champions League is almost here featuring the Grand Finale game on Saturday May 26th pitting England’s Liverpool against Spanish side Real Madrid. The two teams involved fought tooth and nail to secure their ticket to entertain football fans at the climax of this league, notably the two teams had to defeat 3 other teams in 2 match sets to qualify for this finale and yet both teams have a grand task to determine the best squad of 2018.

The Champions League is organized to start at the round of 16 and graduating upwards to the final, involving a two leg series, one match is played at each teams home stadium and scores carry over to the 2nd leg and the leading team in terms of goals from the two games secures the ticket to advance to the knockout stages. Ties are settled by application of the away goal count to determine the site team that goes ahead, for example, a team that has 2 away goals and the other has 1 and are tied 2-2 at the end of game 2 the team with more away goals advances.

Throughout the league campaign many seemingly indomitable teams as well as ones considered as underdogs were knocked out of the tournament several months ago. Flashing back at the early knockout stage/round of 16 there were moments of great match ups as well as a few blowouts. Manchester City kicked off it’s campaign with a blast thrashing FC Basel 4-0 in the opening contest followed by a scoreline of 2-1 in the second leg game in favor of FC Basel(5-2 over.).

Farther afield after the complete two leg/game series. Real Madrid dominated PSG 5-2 on aggregate, Juventus edged Tottenham Spurs 4-3 on aggregate, Liverpool beat FC Porto 5-0 on aggregate, FC Barcelona humbled Chelsea 4-1 on aggregate, FC Bayern demolished Besiktas 8-1 on aggregate, Sevilla beat Manchester United 2-1 on aggregate and AS Roma beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-2 on aggregate by away goals.

The Quarter Finals had some thrilling action and inspiring comeback. The first series saw FC Bayern triumph over Sevilla 2-1 on aggregate, followed by Liverpool humbling prior Premier League Champions Manchester City 5-1, Real Madrid jubilates a fierce faceoff with Juventus 4-3 on aggregate and the super comeback was seen AS Roma beat FC Barcelona 4-4 aggregate on away goals, Roma scored won 3-0 in the second leg completing the comeback.

The Semi Finals were a heated set of games of the remaining four teams. Initial results was goals laden series with Liverpool registering outstanding 7-6 on aggregate and the last series to determine the finals saw Real Madrid beat FC Bayern 4-3 on aggregate. With these results final Real Madrid will faceoff Liverpool on May 26th at 1:45 pm Central Time.
